COACHING STAFF

Michael Barbieri

Head Coach

Originally from Woodbridge, ON, Barbieri began his rugby career with the Vaughan Yeomen Rugby Club, quickly showcasing his natural talent for the sport. He further developed his skills as a junior player with the Ontario Blues and earned his first professional experience in Italy with Parma, where he played until 2007.

On June 10, 2006, Barbieri and his younger brother, Robert, both made their debut for national teams. Micheal played for Canada against the England Saxons in the Churchill Cup, while Robert represented Italy.

After his time with Parma, Barbieri joined Benetton Treviso, contributing to their Super Italy Championship victory in the 2008-2009 season. He later moved to L’Aquila in 2009, where he retired from competitive rugby after winning another championship.

Since retiring, Barbieri has returned to Canada, where he served as the Head Coach of the Yeomen Rugby Club’s men’s program for several years in the early 2010s. From 2019 to 2023, he also held the position of forwards coach for the Sheridan College men’s rugby team.
